Your work is changing shape.
Here’s work that grows with you instead of being replaced by it.
Organisations on The Grove are self-owned: owned by their people, run with AI doing the admin, and with no boss at the top. Behind them sits The Grove Steward, which looks after the code they run on and helps organisations onto it. It’s opening roles that barely existed five years ago, built around the work people do best.
Three ways in. Come in by the one that fits.
You’ve probably felt it already
The decks, the frameworks, the reports, the first draft of almost anything: a machine can do much of that now.
Plenty of capable people are quietly asking where they’ll fit. Some are reskilling for the second or third time. Some are wondering what to tell their children. Most are trying to squeeze back into shapes that are already dissolving.
Here’s a different answer. Organisations are learning to run without a hierarchy, with people and AI working side by side. Someone has to design them, hold them, shape them to each trade, make them legal, build what they run on, teach people to work in them, and bring the founders who start them.
That’s what these roles are.
Roles opening now
Seven roles open now, each built around something people do better than machines. Four more are opening soon.
Every one is real work that organisations pay for. Open a role to read it in full.
Transition Architect
For consultants, coaches and change leaders
Open nowDesign organisations that keep their shape after you leave.
You’ve spent years helping organisations change, and too often watched it unravel once you left. Here you design the transition and then step back, while the organisation keeps the shape because it grew it. Your methods become playbooks and starter packs that carry your name.

Why this role exists now
Most change programmes fade within a year. You know this because you’ve lived it: the workshops land, the energy rises, and then the old hierarchy quietly reasserts itself. Meanwhile AI is taking over the frameworks and the slide decks. What it can’t do is help a group of people find a shape they’ll actually hold.
What you’d do
Walk an organisation across from hierarchy to self-management. Hold its first decisions until people trust the process. Turn your methods into playbooks and starter packs that other organisations can grow from. Then step back, and watch it keep working.
You’ll recognise yourself if
- You’ve led change and felt the frustration of it not lasting
- You’d rather leave something standing than stay needed
- You see organisations as living systems, not org charts
- You’re quietly wondering what consulting looks like in five years
What it gives you back
Work that compounds. Every method you build carries your name and can be used again by organisations you’ll never meet. Clients who stay changed. A practice built on a platform rather than on your hours alone.
How it works
Organisations pay for setup, design and consultancy, and you’re paid for that work. Your playbooks stay credited to you. It’s early, so the details are shaped together with the first architects. You’d be one of them.
Clearing Facilitator
For facilitators, and practitioners of the inner and somatic work
Open nowHold the space where the real things get said.
Every organisation on The Grove has a Clearing: a confidential space where nothing is recorded, for what can’t be said anywhere else. It needs someone from outside who holds no power over the people in the room. As more of the work is done by machines, this becomes the work that matters most.
Read the full role
Why this role exists now
When machines take on the routine work, what’s left is the human part: trust, conflict, grief, the thing nobody will say in a meeting. Most organisations have nowhere for that to go, so it goes underground and comes out sideways. A Clearing gives it somewhere to land. It works best held from outside, by someone who has no say over anyone’s pay or seat.
What you’d do
Hold Clearings for organisations on The Grove, rotating between them so nobody becomes the guru. Help each organisation grow its own facilitators. Build the map of where to find more care, ready before anyone needs it. And be held yourself, alongside others doing the same work, so nobody holds a room alone.
You’ll recognise yourself if
- You’ve held rooms where something real shifted
- You know the difference between holding space and steering it
- You’ve seen what happens to a team when the hard things stay unsaid
- You’re quietly asking where the human work goes once AI does the rest
What it gives you back
Work that grows in value as automation spreads, not less. A practice across many organisations rather than dependence on one employer. Peers who hold you while you hold others.
How it works
Organisations pay for facilitation, and you’re paid for that work. Training their in-house facilitators is paid too. It’s early: the first Clearing Facilitators will shape how the practice runs across every organisation that follows.
Domain Architect
For people who know a profession inside out
Open nowShape the platform to how your trade really works.
A clinic, a law practice, a farm and an energy co-op all run differently, with rules a newcomer wouldn’t guess. Your knowledge of how a trade really works is the thing no general system can supply. You shape the platform to fit it.

Why this role exists now
AI knows a little about everything. It doesn’t know the unwritten rules: the licence nobody mentions until you need it, the season that makes or breaks the year, the duty of care a newcomer would never think of. Organisations starting on The Grove can begin from a starter pack for their trade, with the branches, roles, first tasks and rules already in place. Every pack needs someone who knows the trade from the inside.
What you’d do
Write and validate the starter pack for your profession. Name the rules, duties and compliance that apply. Review the design against how the work is really done, and tell us plainly where The Grove doesn’t fit yet. Put new patterns through their paces in our simulations before real organisations rely on them.
You’ll recognise yourself if
- You’ve been in your trade long enough to know what the textbooks leave out
- You’ve watched software built by people who never did the job
- You’d like your experience to outlast your working hours
- You’re quietly wondering what your expertise is worth once AI answers the easy questions
What it gives you back
Your knowledge turned into infrastructure, used by every organisation in your trade that starts on The Grove, with your name on it. Advisory work with those organisations if you want it.
How it works
Packs stay credited to the people who write them. Organisations pay for setup and consultancy from people who know their trade, and that work is paid. How pack authors share in the value their packs create is being set now, with the first authors.
Platform Engineer
For people who build software
Open nowBuild what self-owned organisations run on.
A core in Rust on the Internet Computer, so no organisation lives on one company’s servers. A light relay to the outside world. AI that works under people’s authority, never around it.
Read the full role
Why this role exists now
AI writes more of the code every month. What it can’t do is decide what a system should protect. The Grove is software where that question is the whole job: decisions, trust, money and work kept honest, for organisations that no single company can switch off or sell.
What you’d do
Work on the core in Rust on the Internet Computer. Build the connectors that bring work in from the tools people already use, and the small Cloudflare relay that touches the outside world. Shape the surface people work in every day. Keep it secure, fast and cheap to run.
You’ll recognise yourself if
- You care who your software serves, not just how it scales
- You’re interested in decentralised systems without the hype
- You’d rather build AI that answers to people than AI that replaces them
- You’re quietly asking what engineering becomes when an agent writes the first draft
What it gives you back
Hard, real problems: governance, identity, money and agents working together. Code that runs organisations, not ad clicks. And a place in an organisation nobody can sell out from under you.
How it works
Engineering is paid from what organisations pay for their plan. The core already runs. It’s early, so the first engineers shape the architecture alongside the person who wrote it.
Founder Partner
For connectors, storytellers and community builders
Open nowBring founders somewhere they can start without a boss.
You know where the builders gather and how to tell a story straight. You bring founders who want to start something that’s theirs, then bring back what they ask.
Read the full role
Why this role exists now
More people want to build something of their own, partly because the job they had is less certain than it was. Most don’t know where to begin, and the usual route ends with someone else in charge: an investor, a board, or a boss they eventually hire. The Grove gives them another way. They need to hear about it from someone they trust.
What you’d do
Find the builders where they already gather. Tell the story straight, with no hype and nothing invented. Invite founders in and help them through their first hour. Bring back the questions they ask, so the product answers them.
You’ll recognise yourself if
- You’re the person people ask, “Who should I talk to?”
- You’ve helped other people start things
- You’d rather be trusted than be loud
- You’re quietly wondering what sales and community work look like when AI writes the outreach
What it gives you back
Work you can believe in, and a network of organisations that remember who brought them. Every founder you bring is someone you helped escape the thing they were leaving.
How it works
Founder Partners are paid for the organisations they bring onto The Grove. The exact terms are being set now, with the first partners.
Governance Counsel
For lawyers and governance specialists
Open nowMake new kinds of organisation simple, legal and owned by their people.
Organisations without a boss, spread across borders, need legal structures where money can’t buy control. You design the wrappers and agreements that let them form in hours, stay compliant, and stay owned by the people who do the work.
Read the full role
Why this role exists now
Organisations are starting to run without bosses, across borders, with AI doing the admin. The law hasn’t caught up. Most structures assume someone at the top can be held responsible, and someone with money can take control. These organisations need structures where neither is true.
What you’d do
Design the legal wrappers that let self-owned organisations form, trade and stay compliant. Shape how investment can fund an organisation without buying a say. Build the templates and agreements that make formation take hours, not months, so every organisation after the first benefits from the work.
You’ll recognise yourself if
- You’re more interested in what the law could enable than in what it forbids
- You’ve wondered how DAO structures, co-operatives or employee ownership could actually work in practice
- You’d like your expertise to become infrastructure, not just billable hours
- You’re quietly asking what legal work looks like once AI drafts the contracts
What it gives you back
Frontier work in an area few lawyers understand yet. Structures you design get used by many organisations, with your name on them. A seat at the table where new kinds of organisation are being invented.
How it works
Organisations pay for formation and ongoing compliance support, and that work is paid. It’s early: the first structures are being designed right now, with a real organisation. You’d be shaping the template everyone after them uses.
Learning Lead
For trainers, educators and coaches
Open nowRun the sandpits where people learn to build before it’s real.
Tomorrow’s founders and teams need somewhere to practise first. In a sandpit, people start an organisation and a simulated world plays their customers, suppliers and enquiries. You turn that into learning that sticks.
Read the full role
Why this role exists now
Most people have only ever worked inside a hierarchy. Running an organisation with no boss, with AI as a colleague, is a skill nobody was taught. Content is now free and endless, so knowing about something is worth less every month. Being able to do it is worth more. A sandpit is where that gap closes: a flight simulator for self-management.
What you’d do
Design and run sandpit programmes for founders, teams and whole organisations. Help teams inside existing companies practise before they change for real. Turn what happens in the sandpit into learning that lasts, alongside the Max Unleashed fable and its workbook.
You’ll recognise yourself if
- You train people and wish they could practise, not just listen
- You’ve watched a great workshop fade by Monday
- You’re drawn to simulation, games and learning by doing
- You’re quietly asking what training looks like when the content is free
What it gives you back
A new field to help define. Programmes that carry your name. Learners who leave able to do it, not just talk about it.
How it works
Organisations and teams pay for sandpit programmes and training, and that work is paid. It’s early: the sandpit is being built now, and the first Learning Leads will shape how it’s taught.
Opening soon
Four more roles, opening as the work presses for them.
If one of them is already yours, register your interest now. The first people to speak up help shape the role before it opens.
AI Systems Designer
Everyone’s adding AI. Few are deciding how it should behave.
On The Grove, AI works inside each organisation as a colleague: it drafts, routes work, remembers, and notices what’s being missed. Someone has to shape how it does that: when it helps, when it asks, and when it stays out of the way. Always under people’s authority, never around it.
Register interest →Finance Partner
When there’s no boss, the money has to be fair by design.
Investment that funds an organisation without buying a say. Pay that follows the role. Value that reaches the people who add it, including the quiet work. You’d turn those principles into structures organisations can actually run on.
Register interest →Product Designer
Most work software is built for managers. This is built for the people doing the work.
Design the surface people open every morning: where work arrives, decisions are made and people are heard. Calm, clear and quick to learn, for people who have never worked without a boss before.
Register interest →Research Lead
Everyone has opinions about self-management. Very few have evidence.
Find out whether The Grove creates freedom or friction, using real organisations and our simulations. Report it honestly, including what doesn’t work, and share it openly.
Register interest →How it pays
It’s early, and here’s what’s real now.
- Organisations pay.For their plan, and for setup, facilitation, consultancy, formation and training. That work is paid.
- Pay follows the role.Including the quiet work nobody puts in a report.
- What you make carries your name. Methods, playbooks, packs and structures stay credited to the people who made them.
- The detail is shaped together. As each role grows, you help set the terms rather than being handed them.
Why it’s more secure than a job
A job can be restructured, sold or automated out from under you. This is built so it can’t be.
- Nobody can buy control. Investors can fund it and share in what it builds, but money never buys a say.
- Nobody can take your seat. Influence comes from the people you work with. It’s earned, and re-earned, and it can’t be bought.
- Automate your own job, and keep the credit. Teach the AI your routine work, keep a thread of recognition for what you built, and move on to work you’d rather do.
- No single owner. The Grove Steward runs on The Grove, by the same rules as everyone else. No exceptions.
- You can do both. Most people in these roles also work in organisations on The Grove. You can serve the network and belong to it.
Who it’s for
People who’d rather build something that lasts than climb something that won’t.
Who are good enough to step back. Who’d tell us when we’ve got it wrong. Who can feel the ground moving, and would rather stand somewhere they help to hold.
Under the hood
Want to see how the organisations work?
How an organisation on The Grove makes decisions, shares money, uses AI and holds its people. Why there’s no boss, why nobody can buy control, and what goes wrong without each part. The long read, for anyone who wants to look underneath before they commit.
Start a conversation.
Pick the role that fits, or tell us you’re not sure yet. A person reads every one.
No sales pitch. One reply, then a proper conversation if it fits.
Would you rather back The Grove than work in it? Money can fund it and share in what it builds, but never buy a say. Write to theo@max-unleashed.com.
